Stream of Conciousness...

Today is a random weekend day. I have to work today, or rather, tonight. I'm not looking forward to it. Well maybe I am, a little... but I won't say why. I picked up another shift for Wednesday night, which means that Monday (E's Bday) is going to be my only day off this week. But I requested the weekend off so that A, E, and I can go to LA for the weekend. We will be staying with her friend and hopefully getting to see my older brother JM and his girlfriend N as they are both on leave and he is flying into LA tomorrow to visit her and her family. So hopefully the management at work will grant my schedule request for next week. PLEASE! lol. Yesterday was a long long long day. I worked from 9-5 then went out to a birthday party, came home, blogged for 2 hours (yes, I was that determined to make my first Fashionable Friday yesterday) and dropped. Basically. Except that it took me about 3 hours to finally fall asleep when I hit the bed. And I didn't get up until 11:30 today. Lazy bones as my mother would call me... Oh mommy how I miss you =P. I have really been missing my friends from school lately. That's the only thing that stinks about being here for the summer, I don't have any friends. I do have family, and it's been awesome to spend more time with my sister in law and my two brothers, but I do miss having friends around to have heart to hearts with. And my skype does not work brilliantly here. =[ But it will only be 4 more weeks until I get to see them. I'm excited! And sad. It will be bittersweet when I finally leave SD. Well, that's all for now! BEDTIME! We're going to a Thai Buddhist Temple in the morning to see some of A's culture!

Fashionable Friday!

Here's to my first ever Fashionable Friday! Keep in mind these "special" theme posts may not be a weekly thing, as I may eventually run out of things to post, but they will be fun in the meantime. As you may or may not remember from yesterday's post announcing the creation of Fashionable Fridays, today is all about what current trends and styles are catching my eye and my taste at the moment. Today I'm going all random on you. Well, kind of. We're going to take a look at my "Cali Cool" relaxed look that I put together to wear to a birthday party tonight, and we're going to look at trends I am going to try in the fall based on what I have recently purchased! Get excited, I know you're going to love it! Here we gooooooooo!

"Cali Cool"

One pair distressed denim shorts
One pair studded gladiators
One Royal Purple "Beater" Tank
One Purple Plaid Shirt
One White Flower Clip
One Pair White Flower Earrings

You can see that I've started with the shorts (my favorite pair). I bought them at Aeropostale, and they are a great, appropriate length for someone who likes to dress conservatively, like me.

And here you can see that I have paired a Miley Cyrus Max Azria "beater" tank with an American Eagle "Exploded Gingham" Button up shirt. I found that the colors matched, and kept the look fun, fresh, yet girly at the same time.

To keep up with the girly feel, I added a white cotton flower clip I bought at Old Navy a while ago. I had just gotten home from work and decided I didn't want my hair up, so instead of it just hanging there, I pulled a bit up, and added the clip!

Here you can see the clip a little better, but you can also see the tiny white flower studs I have in my first holes! They are adorable, and I will share with you where I bought them a bit later!

Here are the last pieces to the puzzle. Studded gladiator-like sandals! I love these, I bought them for about $23 at Target back in April, and I was so mad at myself because I was pretty convinced that I would never wear them, but it turns out that I wear them ALL the time! GREAT Investment! And everyone always tells me that they look like I paid hundreds for them! SCORE! =]

Here is the studded detail a little closer!

And here's the finished product!

And one final shot.

Now, onto this weeks trends that I am looking forward to trying in the fall!

I have been in love with leather jackets for about 3 years now. And I have been looking for one (real leather or fake, I didn't care!) in the $30 price range since then. Yesterday I FINALLY found one! Check out my $20 "pleather" jacket that I got from Forever 21 yesterday!

LOVE IT! It was PERFECT and I didn't even know it! Also, even though it's not real leather, it sure looks and feels like it! No jokes.

Next piece that I'm currently loving is the Vans "Era" sneaker. They are super super popular here in SoCal, and I got a custom pair for Christmas 2009. They are my FAVES(next to my Converse All Stars and my Nike Dunks of course...)If anyone knows me, they know that I cannot walk in heels for the life of me and I don't find flats to be very comfortable, ergo, my sneaker obsession! Here's my pair of custom Vans!

The only regret I have is that I didn't get them in a darker color, because they are really dirty, as you can tell...

The next thing is my grey skinny jeans! They add to the girliness of my closet, and they go with the new pastel-type colors that are in this season! I bought them for less than $20 at JC Penney's!

They fit like a dream, and look Oh-so-cute with just about anything!

Adding to the girly list (which as you might be able to tell is my "theme" for today... FLOWERS! Clips, earrings EVERYTHING!

These clips I bought at Forever 21 for something like $2.50, I love them. I'm not much of one for pearls, but I thought they added a nice, sweet, girly touch to an outfit. I've been wearing them to work lately to make my uniform less gross.

Here are the earrings I bought with the white ones from the Cali Cool outfit, as you can see they came in 3 different colors and sizes. Each color and size came with the rosettes, a set of colored faux pearls, and a set of colored gemstones! Only $4.50. Love the deals I find at Forever 21!

My next item is my mirrored Wayfarer Sunglasses that I bought for $12.50 at Target in late March.

I love them. They are my go-to shades for the strong SoCal sun! And so cute. The picture doesn't show the mirrored aspect because of the flash, but you can indeed see a perfect reflection in them!

Next is a top that I got at Marshalls for $12.99.

I love the girly pastel color, and the detail at the top. I love that I can wear it both to class and out at night. It has the perfect balance of dressy, casual, chic, and girly.

As you can see in this close up, the detail at the top is made of ribbon, gemstones, and faux pink pearls. I love it. Of course, this means that I can't wash it normally, but I don't mind. I find it's worth it.

I can't wait to pair these two together....

The reason I'm interested in pairing them is because I'm really loving the girly with an edgy vibe trend that is hot right now. Can't wait to see if I can pull it off!

Last, but most certainly NOT least is lace. It's no longer simply something for your grandma...

Unfortunately I have not gotten anything with lace on it yet, even though I was very close yesterday. Therefore I must resort to this adorable tag from Forever 21 when I bought my jacket. And I have to tell the story about "the one that got away..." It was a grey tank, lace racerback straps at Hollister, and it was only $6. The problem was that the line was about 30 minutes long. I was not willing to stand in line for that long... soooo it got away from me.

Anyway! That was Fashionable Friday! It was long winded, but if you remember my earlier posts, you'll know that that's me! So enjoy! See you tommorrow!

More blog changes!

Welcome to Thursday! And another blog change. I have decided that in addition to Musical Mondays I will also be instating Thirsty Tuesdays, Whatever Wednesdays, Tasty Thursdays, and Fashionable Fridays. The weekend is still up for grabs. Tuesdays will be about yummy drinks I've recently tried (quite obviously non-alcoholic) Wednesdays will be about whatever I decide, Thursdays will be about yummy things I've eaten, and Fridays will be about fashion and current trends I am into. So Tasty Thursdays here we come! I just got back from the mall with my sister (and can I just say... In lieu of Whatever Wednesdays... That I am in LOVE with open-air malls. And that's all they have out here. They are so nice. I can't even describe how great they are.) and while we were there instead of Starbucks, which is our usual but there was a long line, we tried this pretzel place called "Wetzel's Pretzels."

[I totally stole this pic from Google Images...]

And we had their original buttered pretzel with salt, and Strawberry Lemonade. YUM YUM YUM! (I guess the Strawberry Lemonade will be my Thirsty Tuesday for the week...) The pretzel tasted so fresh, soft, moist, and yet a perfect amount of crispy. The butter and salt were not overdone, and the only complaint I have is that I never can eat a whole soft pretzel so I threw a small portion away. It was awesome. I have a feeling I will be going back there soon, so that I can have another one.

I'll probably write another entry later, more pertaining to my current goings-on and give you all an update about my life. For now, I'm going to catch up on some TV I missed while I was at work last night. I can't believe I only have 4 weeks left here. I'm so sad, but determined to continue making the most of it!

Catch ya later!

Mid-week Music

I am in the process of renewing myself, and more importantly, this blog. For me, I am inventing a whole new (outward) me. I am renewing my style and the pieces in my closet. I am striving to gain a more mature look. For the blog, I am trying to give myself a better reason to blog every day. I'm also trying to make it more fun, colorful, and you'll notice that I've changed up my signature a bit! So for Mondays (which I realize is NOT today) I am creating "Musical Monday" where I will share some of my current favorite songs. I will share either 2 or 4 songs (because everything with me has to be an even number) and I'm starting today, because, well, why not! Here we go.......

First up: Dynamite by Taio Cruz. I adore this song! It's so fun and energetic! PERFECT summer song!

Second: Somebody to Love Remix Featuring Usher by Justin Bieber. Honestly, you didn't think there WASN'T going to be a JB song in here did you?

Third: Ours by The Bravery. Not only is this one on the Eclipse soundtrack, but I hear it everytime I clean a theater at work after the Eclipse showings are over. LOVE IT!

Fourth and Last: Tennis Elbow by Sky Sailing. This one is created by Adam Young, the mastermind behind Owl City! And in the spirit of Owl City it has the same eclectic lyrics that just make you go all warm & fuzzy inside. Sky Sailing is more acoustic guitar based as opposed to the techno type sounds of Owl City. But more to come on our dear Owl City and Sky Sailing later!

I hope whoever reads/listens to this post enjoys these four songs as much as I do!

Until Later!

It has been far far far too long...

And for that I am extremely sorry. To me. I guess. Since I'm the only one who appears to be reading this. My own blog. How sad.

Also to be fair, my computer crashed a week ago today and JUST got repaired on Sunday. SO, that was also preventing me from getting another post up. I lost a lot of files. Over 1,000 songs on iTunes, and about 50 photos. But it's gravy.

Okay, enough self-pity. On to my California Adventures! I promised. And I am a woman of my word. So I'm going to blog about my summer so far.

B left for Africa 2 weeks ago this Thursday. And he got to stop in some cool places on his way there! I'm very jealous. He got to go to Venice and Portugal. That was his SECOND time in Venice! But he had fun on his way there, and now it's down to business.

A week before B left for Africa we went to Los Angeles and Hollywood for the day!

We parked in Thai Town, went to a great Thai restaraunt.

(^^ B&A being silly in the Subway^^)

Took the subway to North Hollywood.

Went to the Walk of Fame.

And Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum!

I "met" Robert Pattinson!

And got close to Justin Timberlake!

I had "Breakfast At Tiffany's!"

And the bathroom doors were labeled!

And we saw RPatz's chair!

And MJ lives on! YAY!

On our way out, I saw my favorite boutique to drool over.

All in all it was a really great day. On the way home we stopped at Buffalo Wild Wings for dinner, but I wasn't all that impressed. The service was horrible and the food was nothing special. Plus it was really expensive!

In other news, some other cool things that have happened to me this summer....

My sister-in-law, the gorgeous A...

Lent me her Louis Vuitton Speedy!

I have wanted one of these since I turned 15 and first learned what Louis Vuitton was. And let me tell you. Some day when I have a real career, I will be saving to buy myself one. I LOVE IT! The shape, the way it looks, the way it looks when you wear it, and just everything!!!

Before B left, we frequented the gym!

And I've lost about 10 lbs since I got here! I need to get back on the bandwagon, but it's not easy when I can't go on the Marine Corps Base without A) a ride from A and B) A's military ID. She has taken this deployment really well so far, but she still has wanted to mostly stay at home in her room since B has left. So the gym hasn't really been one of her top priorities. I hope to continue keeping fit, and have decided to go for a jog tomorrow. My new fitness goal is to get toned and to be and feel really healthy, fit, and in shape.

I saw Eclipse in IMAX at work. FOR FREE. And it was amazing. I swear to you that they get better and better with each movie. And Eclipse was probably my least favorite of the books. Now I will probably go see it again tomorrow before my shift because it was THAT GOOD. And the soundtrack is GREAT (not that I'm surprised. They always pick GREAT music for these movies.)

Well that's all for now... in all honesty, my summer has mostly been seeing A's Thai friends, working, watching all 5 seasons of The Office on instant Netflix, being lazy, and fixing a crashed computer.

Hope your summer is splendid as well!

I may be late, but here's some JB love...

I may be neglecting to post about Cali, but here's some lovely, delicious JB to hold you over...

Somebody To Love is my favorite song on the CD =]
What do you think?

I just wanted to say...

That I'm way too tired to blog today like I said I would. I just got back from an 8 hour all alone satellite shift at work, and I'm stressed and tired, and over it. I will try to blog about my California adventures so far when I get back from work tomorrow night, or maybe you'll have to wait until Monday night or Tuesday, if anyone is indeed waiting... this weekend at work is going to be utterly crazy.

I feel awful...

Well, emotionally. I've neglected to blog at alllllll in the 4 weeks (almost) that I've been in California. And I'm disappointed in myself for that because I've had all the time in the world. Since it's 12:23 AM here, and I just spent a very long day off away from the house I'll keep this one a brief update, no pics, and try to pick up somewhere near where I left off tonight, in the morning/afternoon/evening/whenever I get the chance tomorrow.

For now, the important things are the following:
~I got a job.
~B leaves for a 4 month deployment on July 7th :(
~ A and I have been having an amazing time together, it's so nice to have an older sister to talk to and look up to.
~I've lost about 7 lbs.
~I've been working out with A&B in the "SemperFit" gym that the Marine Corps has on base at least once a week, and the other night I ran 1.5 miles, biked 4 miles, and did 150 leg presses of 180 lbs.
~I will achieve my goal of being physically fit enough to not make someone nauseous when they see me in a bikini.
~I am on my way to a more mature, more grown-up style of dress.
~I get paid way too little for the amount of hours I work and the amount of effort I put in, but such is life.
~I've decided I don't really like the iPhone 4 nearly as much as I like the iPhone 3GS and am slightly irritated that I won't be able to buy a 3GS when I finally save enough money to treat myself to the phone I've been coveting (how awful is that word?) for about 2 1/2 years....
~I survived babysittting 5 girls under the age of 10.
~I went to the beach on the first official day of summer.
~I have been exhausted but full of glee, cheer, happiness, euphoria, and a sense of belonging ever since I got here, and I hope it never goes away.
~I realized that God has blessed me in ways I cannot even begin to fathom, explain, put into words or otherwise. His grace astounds me.
~I miss my friends from school and have made a forceful decision for the group, that we will spend our Spring Break 2011 here.

The end. For now. I'll try to be back tomorrow to write about some specific things that I've done and had fun doing while I've been here, and I hope to be able to keep coming back often, even though I have a feeling that this is going to be one super busy, super fun summer. Like I said, I am blessed in ways I am only beginning to fathom. I hope everyone else is having as a great of a summer as I am.
